Domus Exsulis: The Grounds

by Nin Harris on Sep.17, 2006, under Domus Exsulis

Domus Exsulis is a rambling structure of ancient stone that stands on a cliff overlooking Alta Exsilii, the Sea of Exiles. It is surrounded by a garden overrun with thorny rose bushes, winding walkways and sprawling lawn. If you are lucky, you may catch a sight of the dragons who like to lounge about, bronze, gold, copper and silver scales glinting in the afternoon sun or golden moonlight. Once upon a time they would wait here for the Guardian to feed them all manner of baked goods. But they still bask here, showing no sign of missing her or her famed biscuits.

There are also the goblins who fence with the pookas and the gnomes in darkened hallways, and blue mountain imps playing long, involved games of chess along the veranda that overlooks the sea. Domus Exsulis can be a hub of activity or deserted and silent.

Somewhere at the bottom of the garden there is a quiet pool where nixies dwell, and along the roofless corridors of moonlight which criss-cross the grounds, random spirits rub shoulders with backpackers and poets.
